Craig Attkisson – B.S. Turf Grass, Horticulture – Virginia Tech
Entrepreneured his landscaping business mowing baseball and soccer fields at the age of 10. His love of those fields, and clients’ satisfaction, inspired him to explore the green industry. Raised on a Christmas tree farm, he knew working outdoors with plants and turf were his life’s passions. He spent summers on the Maintenance staff of Hanover Country Club. Eager to expand his knowledge, Craig earned degrees in Turf grass and Horticulture from Virginia Tech. During his studies, he traveled to South Africa to research cultural diversity, climates, agrometeorology and large-scale irrigation. Upon returning to the U.S., Craig worked with all three Country Club of Virginia courses, gaining a vast knowledge of turf maintenance and valuable supplier connections. Craig then joined Hermitage Country Club as Second Assistant Superintendent. While maintaining turf was satisfying, Craig’s deep interest in plantings equipped him to launch Green Side Up Landscaping.

Bill Gallagher – A.S. Agronomy – Virginia Tech
Started his construction career with M.S. St. Clair in Williamsburg, Virginia. He honed his heavy equipment skills by building golf courses and working on site projects. From there, Bill earned a degree in Agronomy from Virginia Tech and interned at Farmington Country Club in Charlottesville, Virginia. After graduating, Bill was awarded an Assistant Superintendent position at the Country Club of Virginia. Four years later, he joined Hermitage Country Club as an Assistant Superintendent on the Manakin Golf Course 2005 renovation. After the construction was complete and the golf course was open, Bill partnered with Craig Attkisson to combine their skills into your premier landscaping design and build contractor.
Jim Gallagher – A.S. Agronomy – Virginia Tech
Helped build the Woods Course at Kingsmill prior to earning his degree in Turf Maintenance from Virginia Tech. Following graduation, he worked at Two Rivers Country Club, and then served as Head Golf Course Superintendent at the Mattaponi Springs Golf Club at the beginning of construction. Jim supervised the construction of the course, the entire drainage infrastructure, and the course irrigation system. He then served as VP of a residential/commercial landscaping company he helped grow into 40+ employees. Jim can’t wait to use his attention to detail on your project to show off Green Side Up’s incomparable skills.
